This hoover arrived very swiftly. I have Arthritis, though not elderly, it is so good to be able to push a hoover around without increasing or inducing lots of pain. It's an excellent little hoover, powerful and easy to use, I can even lift it upstairs. You have to be prepared to empty it regularly which is easy to do. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 is because to use the tools you have to pull out the upright tube and reposition and connect it handle down then return it all before being able to carry on with large areas. I wish there was just an extra extension tube supplied with it that fits on the top as with my old Dyson as this would be much much better for someone with arthritis.

The hoover is definitely lighter and more versatile than my previous Dyson (DC01) and is much easier to use in small rooms. I am, however, disappointed that the hose is so much shorter - the DC24 hose only reaches 4 stairs.

I was impressed with the speed from ordering to receiving my Dyson DC24 Ball Upright Vac, but after reading some of the revievs on how wonderful it is, I am not that taken with it, don't get me wrong as I haven't used it enough yet to get used to it and may change my mind. At present yes it is well thought out, very light and easy to store, I don't find the suction as good as my old vac, and I find it a bit clumsy when using the tools, both the hose & flex are long enough for me as I don't have stairs. The tool for the edges of carpet etc; is too thick especially if you want to get down the sides of the cushions on your suite. Which means Dyson are making more money, if you have to buy additional tools. I will update this review when I've had more practice. Also the manual is not very helpful.

I have been a fan of dyson eversince they first appeared in the electrical retail shop where I worked. I bought one after the first demostration and it is that same one that I have had until now. They were quite pricey then as they still are now, but when you consider the number of years service they give it works out very reasonable. Most parts can be ordered on line and simply fitted, but they are so robust it is seldom they go wrong. The only thing against the original one was that it was quite heavy, but when I read the reviews of the new DC24 lightweight model I was very interested. The Amazon price was the best I could find so I ordered it without hesitation. I am very pleased indeed with it! It is so light and easy to manouvre with the new ball system and the suction is quite incredible. The tools are easy to use and with the option of turning off the beater bar it is excellent for my wooden and tiled floors. So much quicker. The dust container is smaller than my first one and so fills up more quickly, but it is so easy to empty, just take it off, hold it over the bin and press the button. Well done Mr Dyson, you've really thought of everything you need in a floor cleaner. I am once again recommending it to everyone.
