Cloverfield eat your heart out September 2, 2010 Cheshire_Villa Excellent, was bit dubious about buying but the missus wanted one. Simply point, press and record till the action stops* or arm gets tired* (delete as applicable). Need to get a better PC now to run the videos and get the HD benefit.
a great little performer August 25, 2010 maigret (uk) My camcorder arrived in record time. had a little practice at home and was so impressed that such a small gadget could work so well. It was used mainly by my daughter on holiday and most people that we met were impressed with it's performance for something so small. Would definitely recommend.
Flip ultra HD, best pocket camera around IMO August 25, 2010 Scott This camera is awesome, well worth the money and is the best of it's kind. The picture quality is great, and the sound is good as well (which surpirsed me a little tbf). The only fault I can give it, is the picture in low lighting in doors, it looks quite grainy, especially when there is a large contrast of brightness (as in your in a dark room with the door open to a light room), but this said this is something I expect from all pocket camcorders, and would only get worse on different makes and models. So overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.
Flip Ultra HD August 25, 2010 Mrs. S. F. Fitzsimmons Initial problems with charging the battery pack but these were resolved by going to the flip web site. It will not charge when connected via a USB extension lead. It is fine connected directly to my laptop. Since then battery life has been excellent.
The software is basic but easy to use and enables videos to be combined. Portrait videos cannot be rotated or mixed with landscape videos. I need to investigate other software for more advanced editing.
The flip has proven easy to use and great fun. It is pocket size so can be carried easily. I am far more likely to use this than a "normal" camcorder.
Does exactly what it says on the tin August 23, 2010 mfw123 I ordered this camera after seeing some good reviews on tv programmes, then trying out a friend's. It was easy to set up, required no complicated instruction reading, is very easy to use and records good quality video. It has a fairly poor zoom, only 3x, but I knew that when I bought it. It's easy to watch it back both on screen and on the computer; though you need to buy a separate cable if you want to watch it on your TV. We haven't done this yet, which means we are losing some of the HD quality by uploading to a computer with poor graphic quality.
It's very easy to upload videos to the PC, although as yet I haven't tried the editing software. It's easy to take stills from the video though, so I'd imagine editing will be quite simple. No separate leads for charging/uploading is also a bonus, as I tend to lose those.
Basically it's a perfect take-everywhere camera; not much use for filming certain things (ie those that are far away!) but so far we've used it to record me riding my horse outdoors and indoors, lots of children and babies, pets, parties etc. The quality has been fine for all of it, even in poorer indoor lighting.
I used a voucher and only paid half price for the camera. Without that, I may not have bought it; as our decent compact camera has a reasonable video facility. The difference with that is you can't zoom in and out once you have pressed record, which is restrictive when filming something moving (like the horses); hence purchasing the flip. It's been the perfect compromise so far.
