 Excellent HD camcorder + Simple operation = GR8 value ! June 28, 2010

I've owned and used this camcorder for a while now, being an upgrade from my previous 'high end quality' JVC unit, and am very impressed with the picture quality, especially if viewed directly from the camcorder to an HD TV, although it's 'fiddly' having to operate the playback manually rather than via a remote control as my past JVC units ( Didn't buy a JVC unit this time as their 'low end / cheaper' camcorders only seem to achieve the HD quality by 'upscaling digitally', rather than the Panasonic' brand which provides full 'HD' at source !!!!).
Plus's (from my previous camcorders....), are, the Size of the unit ( can fit in a decent size pocket )..the convenience of SD card recording, ( this unit also has an 8gb on board backup storage capacity, but you should have at least 1 extra SDHC Card, 4,8, or 16 gb / class 4 or above is recommended !),for any holiday or extended useage....if the card is full it automatically reverts to the on board storage !
Very simple to operate....but with more complex options if you are adventurous and as before that brilliant HD Picture quality !
Downloading to PC using the provided software's easy, but time consuming, and if you copy to a DVD RECORDER, be aware that it will not be in HD Quality, although it's still much better than mini dv quality, and can be further improved if the dvd recorder / player you use has an 'upscaling' facility.
Downsides.....not many....but mainly with the sound quality which is great in still air conditions, but suffers from annoying 'wind noise' in anything above a gentle breeze when out doors, ( even with the 'wind cut' operating )...and my other criticism refers not to the camcorder, but the 'Panasonic' brand which, whenever you require an accessory ( battery....SD card etc etc..), will result in a rrp at least twice, (or more), the costs of comparible items from other mfrs !!! - Cheaper options are available on Amazon and Ebay, but before buying ensure that they are fully compatible with the camcorder....batteries especially !!!
In summary...I'd give this a 10/10 rating other than the niggles above, which probably reduce the assessment to 8.5/10 overall.....but it's still a gr8 improvement on the former camcorder qualities !

I have really enjoyed this camera. It's light, easy to use and takes good videos. The problem I have is with the HD Writer AE 1.5 that comes with the camera. In short - I can't burn a disc and Panasonic hasn't been able to help me with any offer of improved software. They say there might be some compatibility issues with Dell - whatever. This is a real issue and a big problem.

This camcorder is great. I just took it to dubai where it withstood the hot humid temperatures. Its so easy to use, weighs hardly anything and fits into small pockets.
On the down side the battery life isnt long, but if you charge it up each day (it charges really quickly) you will get a full day and night out of it being constantly used then left on standby. The night filming came out pretty poor using the nightlight, but I think this happens with all camcorders unless you want to pay megabucks for them.
Overall its fab, I would buy it again and definitely recommend it.

Overall, very pleased with this HD camcorder. The images are very sharp and look stunning when I plugged the camcorder into my HD TV. Disappointed that in low light conditions the images and colour quality are not that good, but I have only had this product for just over a month and I am still getting used to the controls and settings, so maybe I will find out how to compensate for low light conditions. I have bought this camera mainly for outdoor use when traveling, etc., so I expect to remain pretty happy about the quality of the daylight images taken. Just need to work out the settings for the best low light/night time conditions.
